I love Beechworth. The town. The wines. The people. It's just a beautiful part of the world. Here's a premium Pinot from premium producer Brokenwood at a fraction of the cost.
What an amazingly bright, sumptuous, flavoursome yet supple Pinot Noir. Sassy and bold; a vibrant colour with youthful violet tints. Enveloping aromas are in the dark red fruit spectrum and yummy complex subtle oak. Abundant savoury fruit and ripe tannins feature on the palate. While this had some whole bunch included, there is loads of fruit weight and has added layers of succulent cherry. Grab some Peking duck, pancakes and Hoi Sin sauce and debauch your self in ever loving, lip smacking quality and forego denial.
This will mature further, although enjoyable as a fresh, zippy young Pinot Noir.
Winemakers Comments The 2013 Pinot Noir grapes were the first off the new vineyard at Beechworth and a stunning vintage to debut. As there are three clones planted over different sites there is the opportunity to process as a number of different parcels. Hence we have the varietal bottling as well as a Single Vineyard wine. The response to our 2012 Pinots from Beechworth was very positive, so there was some nervousness in the lead up to vintage 2013. Thankfully excellent winter rain, 670mm and then a fine dry summer ticked all the boxes. The fruit was slightly riper than 2012.
Retention of fruit character is always important. Processing involved cold soak of the must for a few days and included approximately 10% whole bunches in the ferment. No post ferment maceration was under taken. Oak maturation was in predominantly used French oak barriques and bottled at the 12 month mark.
