So, you ask me all the time Can you have a beautifully medium bodied Coonawarra Cab Sav that drips perfection and does not cost the earth! Something with some age and cellaring all done and just a seamless drink!
Well - let's start with the colour: Deep vibrant ox blood / plum red.
The nose delicious ripe fruit characters of dark plum and mulberry with hints of leathery varietal mint. Sweet vanillin and light roast coffee bean oak derived notes are apparent. A lovely balance of fruit and oak characters.
Really though, it is all about the taste and what we have for you today is a small release of wine ready to engage and delight. A medium to full bodied wine with generous ripe fruit flavours of dark berries and plum enhanced with gentle oak from barrel maturation. The wine has a supple, rounded structure nicely balanced between fruit and oak whilst fine grainy tannins add to the lingering fruit flavours.
Vintage: 2006 Coonawarra vintage will be remembered as being very early and for the very low yields. Slightly above average temperatures prevailed during summer and extended into the ripening. The ideal conditions produced grapes that were disease free and in excellent condition.
Oak Maturation: Matured for approximately 18 months in a combination of second use French Barriques and American oak barrels.
