If you've ever spent a summer swimming around the heads of Port Phillip bay, you would know that there's a lot of the Bellarine Peninsula in this wine. It's both coolly refreshing yet loaded with summery notes of tropical fruits, paw paw, guava, and passionfruit.
Cool temperatures during winter and dry summers coupled with the regions fertile volcanic soil has gifted a flavour which is fresh, tight, and juicy in the mouth. Tropical fruits dominate with a citrus and mineral aftertaste. The colour is a pale straw tinted a light green - which looks especially beautiful lightly chilled on a hot day.
Award and Accolades
2015 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Pale straw-green; name a tropical fruit and you'll fine it here: guava, lychee, passionfruit, pineapple, gooseberry, yet all presented within a web of silky acidity (yes, I know, that's a contradiction in terms). The attraction is obvious, the value even more so."
From the Winery
Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill has become a producer of some of Australia's most complex, elegant and consistent wines. The vineyards are located on Mt Bellarine which was named by the Scottish immigrants who settled the area in the 1840s. Sauvignon Blanc clones F4V6 and H5V10 from vines up to twenty five years of age planted to sandy loam and volcanic clays over broken basalt subsoils, trellised to vertical shoot positioning, yielding 3.0kg per vine and 3.0tn per acre. Grapes are crushed, de-stemmed and pressed into temperature controlled tanks, inoculated and vinified at 13C for a fortnight, followed by lees contact without any exposure to oak.
