The Professor Goulburn Valley Shiraz 2007

WBW Rating: 94/100
Region: Goulburn Valley, VIC

Here you have a quality aromatic, deep bulls blood red wine that grabs your interest straight away. The nose is rich dark fruit and black cherry with nice lifted spice and oak. The palate is where all bets are off though and you simply loose your self and immerse your thoughts to describe the layers of fruit.
Engrossing is a limited way of describing the joy this wine brings you from the first sip. Goulburn Valley fruit on a good vintage is just about unbeatable and may I say underrated in a big way!
This wine goes a long way to enhance the theory that excellent conditions do produce wines of distinction that will not only last but also get better and better with time for cellaring. |

The Professor Goulburn Valley Chardonnay 2008

WBW Rating: 92/100
Region: Goulburn Valley, VIC

Boy oh Boy! Now this is a precise, lively wine with a good balance of nectarine, grapefruit, oak and lovely engaging acid for length. I sourced this wine looking for some cooler climate characteristics that would engage people on all levels - smell, taste & thought. The cool climate distinctive aromatics are there from the start with homely melon and stone fruit- a word here (don't drink at sub zero temperatures). The wine is best drunk out of the fridge for 20 minutes and really begins to liven up with a touch of warmth. Oak is well used here and will see this wine move ahead over the next 2-5 years into perfection. |

The Professor Gippsland Pinot Noir 2007
$13.63/bottle
WBW Rating: 94/100
Region: Gippsland, VIC
Don't Pay: $28.00 /bottle
Yum! Once again the source of this elegant wine for our Scholars range remains a mystery as it normally sells at around double this price. This wine has great fruit from a great vintage and delivers smashing line, layers and length. It is up-front with strawberry and spice and that just rolls elegantly into the palate which goes on and on. Perfect plum fruit with some hints of dark cherry and a lovely earthiness sits in the background that really makes this a sessionable wine. The acid is perfectly counter balanced with fruit weight and tannins are an irresistible part of the package. You've been looking for a great Pinot Noir - well here it is! |

The Crackerjack range of Australian wines reflects a contemporary winemaking style, full of fruit, with concentrated flavours - in tune with the modern consumer palate. Crackerjack is a proud loyal Australian. The varietals in the range represent various well-known wine regions. The brand is bold, strong, unique, and most of all "a bloody good drop". Aromatic yeast selection coupled with cool fermentation is essential to preserve the fruit characters in this wine. Parcels of fruit are fermented separately and the best set aside for blending so that this wine can be released and consumed young, when drinking at its best. |

Xanadu Classic Dry White 2007
$6.99/bottle
WBW Rating: 91/100
Region: Margaret River WA
Don't Pay: $18 /bottle
The vibrant bouquet offers fresh, citrus and herbal aromas with, passionfruit and delicate tropical characters in the background. Medium bodied, the palate displays spicy tropical characters, zesty citrus flavours with a wonderful purity of fruit. An easy drinking 'classic' wine style – clean and fruit driven, with a crisp acidity and a refreshing dry finish. 2007 will be remembered for a few reasons; importantly it was a season which produced exceptional quality fruit, but also because it was the earliest vintage we have ever experienced in Margaret River. The early harvest followed a mild spring, and a relatively dry growing season, which produced good flowering and excellent fruit set. |
