2009 was a fantastic year for Grenache and Mataro in the Barossa Valley. The parcels of fruit that made it into the final blend were sourced from twelve different locations. The final breakdown of the blend consists of Grenache 50%, Shiraz 30% and Mataro 20%. All parcels undertake malolactic fermentation in seasoned oak, and spend 18 months maturation time in barrel. The wine is un-filtered or fined to show the true character of the fruit that makes this wine. Colour : Deep red/purple in the glass. Nose : A rich, inviting nose showing aromas of ripe plums, blackberry and mulberry fruits with hints of five spice, gingerbread, licorice and dark chocolate. There are light notes of musk and dried flowers showing through also. Palate : Medium-bodied on the palate with a velvety, supple texture. The fruit characters are ripe and concentrated with rich plummy fruit supported by mulberry and macerated summer fruits. There are hints of ginger, licorice and exotic spice and the vivid fruit on the mid-palate flows seamlessly through a raft of ripe, fine-grained tannins through to the lingering finish.
