Denis Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2006 |

The wines of Denis Bachelet have a cult following.
Denis Bachelet owns a small, but excellent domain. His wines grow on about three hectare land are already sold out before they are filled in bottles.
In Denis Bachelet's view, 2006 is a "classic vintage that produced extremely fine fines that are unusually elegant. And in contrast to other elegant vintages, 2006 is one where the wines have relatively deep colors as well, which is what reminds me of a comparison with the 2000. Other than a difficult August and some hail in July, '06 was not really all that challenging. There was only moderate sorting and we had normal yields with good sugars at between 12 and 12.5%, which means that there was almost no chaptalization as I never want alcohols much above that. We did have late malos which means that those that tried to evaluate the wines early had a more negative opinion of them than the wines deserve. When you taste them now, it's not hard to tell that they should be special over the medium term."
