Mud House Central Otago Pinot Noir 2010 |

|
COLOUR: Garnet Red.
NOSE: Deep red fruit notes with a hint of spice.
PALATE: Generous flavours of cherry and currant combine with subtle oak. The silky dry tannins lead to a generous fruitful finish.
COMMENTS: Harvest commenced 6th April in our Bendigo vineyard. The grapes were gently destemmed, allowing whole berries to remain intact. After a cold soak, each parcel was fermented separately, with a combination of wild and cultured yeast. Each batch was hand plunged to extract the vibrant colour, flavour and delicate tannin structure. Each parcel was then pressed separately to a mix of new and used French oak barrels or remained in tank. In the spring after completing malolactic fermentation, each parcel and tank was tasted and blended.
VINTAGE CONDITIONS: Central Otago saw a very dry November which lead to late flowering with naturally lighter crops. Summer started slowly but we experienced a warm February which saw 8 days of 30+ temps in our Bendigo vineyard. After the a few frosts and a touch of rain, harvest commenced on the 6th April- about average for the Bendigo region. The cool start maintained lovely structure and acidity and the warm finish to the season gave us exceptional fruit concentration. A stellar season.
VINEYARD REGION: This single vineyard wine was solely sourced from our vineyard in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago. The vineyard's free draining loam soils over schist gravel makes it a natural home for outstanding Pinot Noir. The huge diurnal temperatures also adds to the structure and increases concentration.
