*Yealands Estate is a Carbon Zero Producer*

The Yealands Way Pinot Noir is bright ruby in colour. The nose shows notes of dark cherry fruit and savoury spice. The palate is supple yet juicy with ripe fruit and a soft tannin finish.

At the heart of Yealands Estate is the determined spirit and unconventional thinking of founder and principal Peter Yealands. Happiest with his sleeves rolled up, out working the land, Peter turned the steeply sloped hills (many said were just too rugged for viticulture) into some of the first terraced vineyard in the country. That same ‘can do’ attitude drove the construction of a world class winery linking excellence in environmental design with state of the art technology and underpins our ambition to become a world leader in sustainable wine production.

Vineyard The 2010 vintage started slowly with unseasonably cool spring weather through to December, where we experienced a late cool flowering. Over February, March and April we enjoyed the fantastic dry weather patterns Marlborough is renowned for, with warm days and cool nights enhancing the grapes natural flavours. Overall the season produced outstanding wines brimming with varietal flavour, structure and intensity.

The wine for Yealands Way Pinot Noir is sourced from two vineyards in the Awatere valley – select parcels from the Seaview Vineyard, the Flowerday Vineyard and Central Otago. Clones include 777, clone 5 and 10/5. Winemaking The low yielding Pinot Noir was picked at optimum ripeness. All clones were harvested and made separately. The parcels were cold macerated at 6 – 8 degrees for around five days before being warmed and inoculated with selected yeasts. A fast, hot fermentation proceeded with regular hand plunging which has helped to craft a wine with elegance and balance. The parcels were gently pressed off after fermentation. A portion of the parcels spend some time in second year French oak barrels while undergoing malolactic fermentation. The parcels underwent a light egg white fining, were blended and filtered prior to bottling.
