"91 POINTS. Full crimson; a rich, generous, medium- full-bodied blend, driven by black fruits and soft, ripe tannins; designed for early, casual consumption, but there is plenty of horsepower to carry the wine forward for some years." - James Halliday.
The Barossa has been producing rich full-bodied Shiraz wines for over a century. Our 2009 Kicking Back Shiraz Cabernet follows this tradition. Quality fruit combined with traditional winemaking methods enhanced by modern technology allows us to present you with this consistently great Shiraz Cabernet year in year out.
Rich, fertile, sandy loam and dark biscay soils provide ideal growing opportunities for vines. The Barossa has a Mediterranean-like climate, warm summers and cold winters further in enhance the viticultural conditions. The 2009 vintage produced beautiful ripe fruit, with exceptional depth of colour, flavour and natural tannins. Baume reached 15 degrees before the fruit was picked and delivered to the winery ready for crushing and fermenting.
The fruit was crushed, destemmed and pumped into traditional open fermenters, inoculated with rehydrated yeast culture and allowed to ferment for approximately 10 days. The must was pumped over regularly to extract more flavour and colour from the skins. The wine has been matured in American and French hogsheads for 18 months, resulting in exceptional fruit to oak balance.
BBQ ribs, wings and devils on horseback are a nice start, or whatever you like when “kicking back” with friends and tall tales from windswept and interesting places a long long way away.
