100% McLaren Vale Shiraz (50%) Grenache (50%)
"92+ POINTS. Blackberry pie, leather, licorice, iron and a minor amount of complexing sulphide stink – though this release is pretty clean. Chewy and textured, not hot, with appealing tannin structure – just a little chalky but largely fine and controlling. It’s a savoury wine, not a jammy one, with a good finish (throw in some dried herbs there too) and an excellent sessionability factor. At the price so much genuine appeal and charisma. Cellarworthy too. Love it." - Gary Walsh.
In its youth d'Arry's Original display a bright magenta like brick red colour. This lovely, spicy, plumy red combines the succulent sweet fruit of Grenache and the depth and structure of Shiraz.
A real charmer, with well-judged tannin grip. The nose invariably attacks with lifted spicy cinnamon plum, mulberry & prune aromas. Typically cherry, wild strawberry & lolly-like musk smells also, as well as tighter liquorice, spice, rosemary & fennel smells.
This wine is named in honour of d’Arenberg principal, d’Arry Osborn, who is a Winemakers Federation of Australia Patron and recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia. The d’Arry’s Original blend of Shiraz and Grenache was first launched in 1959 named d’Arenberg Burgundy and changed names in the early 1990’s .
