  Aramis Vineyard Governor Syrah 2006

Aramis Vineyard Governor Syrah 2006.gif
  Rating: 94
"Deep crimson; a rich bouquet full of black fruits and oak, the flavours of the palate following suit, the finish with a twist of spicy/savoury tannins." - James Halliday

All fruit for Aramis reds come from their stunning 64 acre vineyard, located at the bottom of McLaren Vale, just 2km away from the coast of the Gulf St Vincent. The steep southerly aspect protects the vines from the intense afternoon sun and allows the entire vineyard to enjoy the cooling sea breeze that comes in from the south west. With one of the coolest vineyard sites in McLaren Vale Aramis are able to produce elegant wines that balance rich primary fruit flavours with the characteristic earthiness and minerality of the region.

The vineyards are planted exclusively with Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes - the sole objective is to produce the best possible wines that reflect the unique vineyard site.

The grapes for Aramis' flagship wine come off a single block at the top of their vineyard, and the wine is made using traditional labour, labour intensive methods. It is fermented in small open fermenters, spending 10 days on it's skins before being racked in oak. The wine is aged in barrel for a period of 22 months before bottling. It is neither fined nor filtered so that the integrity and depth of flavour of the wine is maintained.

The 2006 growing season proved to be one of the most balanced growing seasons of the decade. The ripening process was incredibly even, with the cool, dry summer allowing optimum conditions for flavour development. The resulting wines from the Aramis vineyard all displayed excellent character, depth and mouth feel.

The Governor is the ultimate expression of the 64 acre vineyard. The 2006 vintage is rich and expressive, full of intense dark berry fruit and mocha flavours, supported by well integrated spicy tannins. Extended time in the bottle has enhanced it's stunning complexity and depth of flavour - truly a wine to be savoured.
