Nose: Vibrant deep plum with purple hues.
Bouquet: Lifted dark berry and plum characters with hints of spice.
Palate: Sweet, rich, dark berry fruits with plum undertones finishing with soft, firm tannins.
Grapes are picked on both colour and flavour development. Picked at night to enable a cold onset to fermentation. Once crushed they are then fermented for 7-10 days at around 20 degrees, in small batches using neutral yeast, to allow regional fruit expression.
The ferment is then pressed using an airbag press. A soft pressing is used, so we do not extract the bitter tannin, producing a fruit driven style of wine. After we have pressed the wine, it is allowed to go through natural malolactic fermentation. Following maturation the wine is blended and prepared for bottling.
McLaren Vale Shiraz at an amazing bargain price. Sensational vintage with terrific quality medium to full bodied fruit, yummy attractive dark cherry colour. The nose reminds me of ripe plums and blackberry fruit with alcohol a back seat driver here. Oak and tannin are well integrated and perform very nicely to harmonize the wine and take a commercial wine and place it well and truley into the much better bracket similar to the Jacobs Creek reserve range quality basket that have over delivered for years. I like it!
First established as a grape-growing region in 1838, it wasn’t until the late 1880’s that McLaren Vale really boomed, developing a fine reputation for full bodied red wines. At the turn of the century a strong export market into the UK was created, long after exports from the other regions of Australia had dwindled. The proximity of the sea in the form of Gulf St Vincent, provides tempering sea breezes offering an excellent micro-climate for viticulture. With well structured soils, the Vale is a haven of consistency. Its endearing beauty, peaceful tranquility and gently undulating hills continue to attract people with their solitude and grace. A long tradition of full flavoured wines is being upheld by Beresford Wines.
