Evans & Tate Gnangara Unwooded Chardonnay 2010

Evans & Tate Gnangara Chardonnay.gif
  Colour: Vibrant mid-straw.

Aroma: Bright lifted peach and melon notes complimented by delicate florals.

Palate: Lovely medium body wine with a seamless acidity balanced with a luscious and juicy ripe yellow peach and nectarine notes. Hints of ripe melon and creamed honey add further fruit weight and complexity across the mid palate.

Vintage Conditions: A warm, dry vintage was experienced in 2010 in the Margaret River wine growing region of Western Australia with no significant rain events or issues with disease in the vineyard. These conditions resulted in rapid, uniform ripening in our Chardonnay Blocks with great retention of flavour and natural acidity at full ripeness. The vineyard blocks were managed to ensure the canopy covered the fruit to prevent sunburn and to retain flavours and acidity in the grape and subsequent wine whilst allowing air flow within the canopy.

Vinification and Maturation: Once the decision to pick the fruit is made, it is harvested in the coolest part of the night between midnight and dawn. The cold fruit is then transported to the winery without delay and transferred into an airbag press which gently extracts the juice. The highest quality free-run juice cut (the first 550-600L/tonne) from each batch is kept separate for fermentation and maturation to be considered for the final blend. Select batches representing around 40 percent of the final blend undergo fermentation and maturation on solids which imparts texture and subtle aromatic complexity into our style. The balance of batches are fermented as clear juice which results in batches that have vibrant, floral aromatics and express the crunchy Chardonnay flavours of nectarine, peach and honeydew melon. Following blending, these different winemaking techniques produce our trademark unwooded Chardonnay style that highlights the purity of this great variety. Minimal handling and a single filtration prior to bottling is critical in ensuring the integrity of the final wine.
