Yalumba Y Series Viognier 2010 |

After harvest the Viognier grapes were gently pressed and the juice handled with controlled oxidation. The wine was fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel. These grapes, and the indigenous yeast that transformed them into wine, have created layers of flavour and richness. After ferment the wine was left on yeast lees for a few months to increase the complexity and creaminess of the wine and add richness to the palate.
A bright yellow straw in colour, the Yalumba Y Series Viognier 2010 exhibits an alluring mix of honeysuckle, candied ginger and glacé pineapple aromas, which are typical of this exotic variety. In the mouth the palate has flavours of fresh pineapple and dried figs. It is finely balanced with silky texture from wild fermentation and lees aging. A wine of poise, which is delicious with zucchini flowers stuffed with a goat’s cheese, pine nut and baby spinach mousse. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Good rainfall was recorded over much of South Australia during the winter and spring of 2009. The cool conditions initially inhibited shoot growth. However, this meant we were able to ensure proper shoot removal, which is vital for growing balanced Viognier vines. A dry, even few months during the ripening period in February and March 2010 meant that disease was nonexistent and we were able to pick Viognier grapes with maximum flavour.
