Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise White 2011 |

Is it any wonder this wine has slipped into the vernacular as "Scrubby White"? While the name may twist tongues, this unusual mix offers a rich array of fruit flavours to inspire the most jaded palate. Crisp and fresh, less than 10% of the blend spent time in new French barriques. It completes the puzzle and gives you something to ponder while you wrestle with Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Viognier.
The Scrubby Rise vineyard (which is ironically flat and without scrub) supplies the name as well as much of the fruit which goes into this unique cépage. Located directly in front of the ancient Wirra Wirra ironstone cellars, it's marvellous soils produce some of the best fruit from season to season. Grapes are destemmed and crushed, the must is chilled to below 5°C and pumped into an airbag press. Free run and pressed juices are kept seperate throughout fermentation, cold stabilised for a week and racked from gross lees, the clear juice is warmed and inoculated with yeasts. Batches are vinified until completely dry. A portion is run to French oak barriques for texture and enhanced complexity
