Exuding all Marlborough’s world class aspects, Maud Island Sauvignon Blanc is a white wine lover’s treat. Revealing classic aromas of pears, pineapple, honeydew and green pepper, the wine positively glimmers in the glass, tempting you into that first, refreshing sip. From then on its hedonism Marlborough style: crisp green apples, kiwi fruit, lemon zest, hints of mango and a grassy, lemon finish, that lingers and then retreats gracefully. There are few better examples of what Marlborough means to Sauvignon Blanc and the people that love it.
The name...Maud Island, originally called Te Hoiere in the Maori language, is the second-largest island in the Marlborough Sounds on the northern tip of the South Island of New Zealand, with a total area of 320 ha (790 acres).
The Maud Island frog, Leiopelma Pakeka, is a New Zealand primitive frog, one of only four belonging to the ancient family Leiopelmatidae. Critically endangered, in early 2006, 21 Maud Island frogs were released into the introduced predator proof Karori Wildlife Sanctuary with more to follow later in the year to make a total of 60. Thirty frogs were released outside the enclosure so that a comparative study could be done. In February 2008, 13 froglets were discovered clinging to adult males, inside the enclosure.
