Punt Road Chardonnay 2010 |
| |
|
|
In 2010 the Punt Road Chardonnay was sourced from 25-year-old chardonnay vines on the Napoleone vineyard. 2010 was an outstanding vintage in the Yarra Valley. The mild, dry conditions allowed for a long and gentle growing season. Chardonnay was harvested slightly earlier than normal to capture the natural acidity and flavours.
Hand-picked and whole bunch pressed; a portion of juice was run off directly into barrels for wild fermentation. The balance was cold settled and racked prior to fermentation in barrel. During 10 months maturation in French oak (25% new), some barrels were regularly stirred to build texture and complexity.
The 2010 Punt Road Chardonnay is made in an elegant restrained style. It shows fresh varietal aromas of citrus and nectarine with subtle French oak. The palate is incredibly fine and structured yet not lacking in concentration. Barrel fermentation and lees-stirring have added complexity and texture.
