COLOUR: Bright and vibrant pale green. AROMA: Fresh honeydew and rockmelon with varietal passionfruit and grassy undertones. PALATE: A zesty palate bursting with a wide array of flavours. Excellent intensity and balance, with a lovely sweet fruit mid palate, and a crisp acidity giving a lovely slatey length of flavour. VINEYARD CONDITIONS: The cooler early Spring weather conditions resulted in many vineyards being delayed in development by up to 10 days. From November to March the conditions changed completely and warmer than average temperature patterns prevailed rescuing a very slow and cool start to the season. In typical Marlborough fashion the warmer Summer day temperatures were contrasted by some brisk cool nights, setting the season up for an outstanding vintage. VINIFICATION & MATURATION: Fruit has been selected from unique vineyard sites throughout the Wairau and Awatere Valleys of Marlborough. The Awatere Valley vineyards provide a steely and racy acidity, while the Wairau Valley vineyards provide powerful and intense fruit with lifted passionfruit. The upper Wairau Valley vineyards around the Delta area display ripe and refined melon-citrus flavours. The fruit was harvested at various levels of ripeness to ensure a mixture of blending options. Once crushed and pressed, the juice was naturally cold settled for several days before being racked clean to fermentation. A slow, cool fermentation savoured the aromatics and freshness before the wine underwent a final blending, targeting wine parcels of naturally lower alcohol, and then a further winery alcohol tweak before bottling set the lower alcohol style.
