Willunga 100 McLaren Vale Shiraz 2016
Amazing depth of brooding crimson deep purple in colour which is typical of this smashing McLaren Vale Shiraz! The nose of this voluptuous beast is a heady mix of dark black berry fruit, with earthy nuances and lifted florals and spice from the addition of smidge of Viognier much like Grange Hermitage.
What I look forward to is the layered textural tannins and excellent structure of this wine as it has great depth and richness with velvety tannins, not to mention the palate beaming full of plums, blackcurrants, dark chocolate and blackberries. Supportive time to meld and bond has provided you with a balanced and lingering finish to make this a most enjoyable wine.
d'Arenberg Stump Jump Shiraz 2015
A nose that’s packed full of berries, dark chocolate (the fancy 70% kind) and a sprinkling of spices. There's the same ripe red fruit on the palate, with evidence of something floral and a twist of fresh black pepper. The tannins are finely grained with d’Arenbergs trademark earthy characters balancing out the more free-wheeling aspects.
Avior McLaren Vale Shiraz 2014
Bright bulls blood crimson colour winks from the glass and makes you intrigued to jump at having the first sniff. Heady violets and spice with dark pepper and cherries, bright raspberry and vanillin aromas come to the fore on the nose. Nicely integrated spice from really smart & deft oak use underlying and generate a tremendous depth on the palate. This wine is blended from vineyards selected across McLaren Vale. They aim to produce a great example of what the region stands for; great drinking, unique wines made from Shiraz.
Angove Family Crest Shiraz 2016
A powerful and dense - deep bulls blood red with purple hues herald your eyes like a beckoning Siren towards the first sip. Captivating notes and aromas of spice, cool white pepper, cashews, cherry and black chocolate precede a palate awash with flavour and depth. Dark chocolate and hints of sweet liquorice, red cherry/raspberry with mouth-filling presence and soft lingering tannins all make for compelling tasting over serious discussion as to how these guys do it for sooooo little?
Pirramimma Stocks Hill Shiraz 2015
Pirramimma have done it again with this value shiraz for big red wine lovers. Weighing in at 14.8% alcohol, it's a full-bodied style that shows rich, ripe smells of dark berries, black pepper and dark chocolate on the nose, which translates to the full-bodied palate. It's all supported by friendly acidity and firmish tannins, which means some red meat is in order to match this.
