A deep red, with nice berry and peppery flavours with a touch of oak. A rich mouth filling palate with a nice smooth tannin and a soft oaky finish.
Awards and Accolades
Barry Weinman, Fine Wine Club "Whilst the origin of the fruit is not listed, this displays quite cool red fruits, with touches of herbs and mint. That said, there is clear varietal expression. The palate is mid weight and balanced, with fresh berry fruits combined with a herbal edge. A touch of cedar adds complexity, whilst the mouth-feel is supple and the length good. Surprising quality. A brilliant value dry red."
90 Points - Mike Frost, Courier Mail "Always good value, this shows dark berry and chocolate characters on the nose and palate, with some capsicum and savoury flavours on the rich palate and fi ne tannins on the finish. Enjoy over the next year or two with grilled lamb cutlets or gourmet lamb and rosemary sausages."
From the Winery
The grapes for this wine were sourced from the Angove family’s own vineyards and premium growers in the region. Soils are predominantly red sandy loam over limestone, on gently undulating east west ridges. Harvest was almost perfect. The weather was consistent with sunny days and cool nights. A smaller than normal yield was harvested with intense flavour. Harvest began early as the flavours and tannins ripened quickly, producing grapes deep in colour and rich in texture.
The grapes for this wine were picked at night to make sure that they were as cool as possible. Crushed to modern rotary fermenters the grapes were then allowed to macerate for 2 days before inoculation and fermentation. Pressed off skins 7 days later and allowed to go through the second malolactic fermentation. The wine has then had minimal handling prior to filtration for bottling.
