This wine is a classic Coonawarra style, showing bright crimson colour with rich berry and cassis aromas and flavours over soft tannins. It is named after the leather tanning pits which were dug into the terra rossa soil last century on the original Hollick property in Coonawarra.
French and American oak maturation contributes to the wine's overall balance and drinkability. Cabernet Sauvignon is the major component of the blend, with 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot also in the blend.
Awards and Accolades
2013 Vintage: 90 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Blackcurrant and mulberry with firm, tobacco-splashed tannin keeping a tight leash on things. Medium in weight and well put together. Likely to age well too”
From the Winery
This wine is named in recognition of the Tannery which was located on this roperty about 100 years ago. The Hollick family first planted Cabernet Sauvignon on this site in 1975, and several years later planted Cabernet Franc and Merlot. These classic varieties create a food friendly style which has been famous for several decades.
