B3 Barossa Valley Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2007 |
| |

|
Cherry red in colour. The nose shows an attractive spice characteristic typical of Grenache, with hints of fennel, licorice and garrigue. Lifted red fruits of cheery and savoury bacon notes. There is an abundance of ripe warm Barossa mid palate depth with balanced and fine oak playing a secondary role.
Peter, Michael and Richard Basedow are the three Brothers Basedow (as they call them- selves), fifth-generation Barossans with distinguished forefathers. Grandfather Oscar Basedow established the Basedow winery (no longer in family ownership) in 1896, while Martin Basedow established the Roseworthy Agricultural College. Their father, John Oscar Basedow, died in the 1970s, having won the 1970 Jimmy Watson Trophy for his '69 Cabernet Sauvignon, a high point for the family. This is a virtual winery enterprise; grapes are purchased mainly from the Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Adelaide Hills and Eden Valley. - James Halliday
'Light reddish hue; while the percentages are not stated, it seems that shiraz provides the texture and structure for the grenache to hold on to; the red and black flavours also combine well; overall, little more than light-bodied, but a pleasant early consumption style. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. Rating 89' - James Halliday
