Turkey Flat Mourvedre 2007 |

***** 5 Star Halliday Winery ***** Encounters with unblended Australian Mourvèdre are rare. This is Turkey Flat’s first varietal Mourvèdre. The wine produced from Mourvédre’s small, sweet, thick-skinned berries tend to be deeply coloured, rich in spice, high in alcohol and tannin, gamey when young and full of fruit.
"Clean, fresh aromas of herbs plus peppery Mourvèdre varietal signature. The palate is sweet and super-ripe, with succulent, almost jammy fruit. It has charm and popular appeal as well as quality. Rating: 4 Stars" - AUSTRALIAN GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE - May 2010.
The suitability of Mourvèdre to the Barossa’s climate was proven during the 2007 vintage. The varieties vigorous canopy and late ripening allowed the fruit to withstand the extreme heat wave the Barossa suffered in mid March. Low yields have resulted in a rich and generous wine with great length of flavour and a fine, chalky finish. A complex and aromatic bouquet of violets, bay leaf and wood spice compliment a palate of fresh raspberries and white pepper. Enjoy now with a richly flavoured meal or cellar for a further 5-10 years.
