Clarendon Hills Onkaparinga Syrah 2006 |
| |
|
|
Part of Clarendon Hills’ ‘Grand Cru’ classification.
Offers a highly elevated perfume of barbequed pork, cardamom, chesterfield couch leather, passionfruit flowers and sweet earth.
The palate cascades concentric layers of round, bespoke extract that leaves a powerful finish begging for a cool cellar and a time machine set for 15 years.
Lifted coffee, mocha and soft liquorice back a finely perfumed floral head on this wonderfully concentrated yet elegant expression of Syrah. A background of roasted meats, pain grille –combined with a racy and pungent character makes for an exciting classical Australian Syrah.
Impeccably balanced and integrated tannins are refined and long grained. A silky, seamless balance exists within the lithe creamy palate where black fruits ‐ cassis and blackberry‐ are woven through.
Low yielding, dry grown 82 y/o vines are hand picked thereby culturing whole berry, wild yeast fermentation. This increases the retention of the grape’s varietal essence and minimises bitter tannin extract. All pressings are returned to the barrel and bottled onsite without fining or filtration.
18 months, 85% brand new, tight-grained French Oak. Barrels are finally hand selected by winemaking team.

Planted in 1928 with syrah and grenache, this vineyard located in the most highly elevated regions of Blewitt Springs. Onkaparinga is an indigenous/aboriginal term for the local region.
The Syrah patch faces west and edges a gorge that has a 75 metre sheer cliff face.
