Kingston Estate Shiraz 2009 |
| |
|
|
There have been some terrific changes at Kingston Estate over the last 3-5 years with a gradual move towards real regional identifiable quality being the right path to pursue and promote. The move is showing incredible success with this years Cabernet and Shiraz both excelling in the market place due to huge quality and ridiculous pricing for value! Sort of reminds me of the original Jacobs Creek reserve ranges of years ago!
The Shiraz variety epitomizes Australian red wine. It grows successfully in many regions providing a supple richness and generosity of flavour.
The 2009 vintage grapes were sourced from the Mt Lofty Ranges and the Limestone Coast.
The grapes were harvested at optimum night temperatures and baume with individual vineyard selections kept separately throughout the processing. Yeast was then selected to conduct the fermentation process on its ability to maximise colour and flavour.
The fermentation process was then conducted in rotary and static fermenters between 24 - 26oC producing a 7 day ferment which was drained off and pressed. Oak maturation of the final wine was then blended before stabilisation and filtration.
The wine is a deep rich colour. The nose shows liquorice and plum with a note of rich spice. The palate is full bodied, with ripe plum, black olive, cloves and a lingering spicy finish.
In ideal cellaring conditions this wine will develop further flavour complexity to 5 years.
