"Crimson-red, although not deep; a blend of Adelaide Hills/Barossa Valley, the Adelaide Hills providing the spicy notes of the bouquet and fore-palate, the Barossa Valley component adding ripe fruit and alcohol." - James Halliday
An all time favourite of mine, these guys just keep delivering!
The perfect balance of fruit and spice and earthiness to drink now, but will tackle the competition head-on with a few years maturing in your cellar.
Mountadam is on a rocky escarpment at the highest elevated, south east edge of the Barossa. This wine is a blend of Shiraz from our estate and the Barossa Valley floor. It shows the elegance of the cooler Eden Valley and the richness of traditional Barossa Valley wines. The wine has a deep red colour with vibrant purple tinges. The primary aromas are of cracked pepper and dark ripe plums with subtle spicy smokiness. Flavours are of cherries, dark chocolate and vanilla with a firm tannin structure and persistent length of fruit flavour.
Fermented over two weeks the juice was drained from the skins daily and then recombined to assist in extracting colour and flavour. The wine was aged for 14 months in French barriques of which 15% were new. Each individual vineyard component was kept separate and assessed just before bottling to create a wine that has a balance of fruit character, alcohol, tannin and length of flavour. 60% of the wine is from our own estate.
