  Roederer Brut Vintage 2005

Roederer Brut Vintage 2004.gif
For two centuries, six succeeding generations have been inspired by the same concern for quality. Frederic Rouzaud took up the reins in early 2006 from his father Jean-Claude Rouzaud who remains Chairman of the Board. Jean-Claude, grandson of Madame Camille Olry-Roederer and himself a trained Oenologist had led the company for 38 years and is referred to as the ‘Sage’ of Champagne. Frederic worked closely with his father across all aspects of the business and brings with him great business acumen and a rich academic background.

Louis Roederer is unique in Champagne owning two-thirds of the vineyards for their total production (just over 200 hectares) across all three sub-regions of “Montagne de Reims”, Vallee de la Marne” and “Cotes des Blanc” for Chardonnay The Louis Roederer vineyards average 97.5% on the offi cial classifi cation scale, and Cristal is made exclusively from Louis Roederer Grand Cru vineyards.

Louis Roederer has long been fascinated by the diversity of aromatic expression of Pinot Noir in Champagne, and has always focused on the structure and power of the Pinot Noirs from the Montagne de Reims, where the north-northeast facing vines are slower to ripen resulting in cuvees which need time to evolve. In fact as early as 1850 Louis Roederer purchased 15 hectares of prime Verzenay vineyards so as to control the quality of the Brut Vintage blend.

The colour is iridescent yellow straw with slightly amber highlights. The mousse is lively and creamy. The nose is an intense bouquet developing spicy and sweet aromas (cedar, cigar box) combined with juicy ripe fruit (yellow peach) and chocolaty hints. Almost overwhelmingly, the nose reveals all the riches of ripe fruit, concentrated in the sunshine of 2005.

The palate is round and gentle, both rich and dense, with an unctuous, fruity texture. The ripeness of the fruit is clear, unctuous and penetrating. You will fi nd yourself suddenly transported into a superb garden amid a riot of scented fl owers, divinely refreshed by fi rm, strong and quite minerally acidity.

To enjoy this wine at its best, serve a 10-12 degrees Celsius. The fullness and richness of Louis Roederer Brut Vintage make it the ideal wine to be drunk with meals and a perfect accompaniment to fi sh dishes and white meats.
