The Ritual Viognier 2008 |
| |
|
|
The Ritual Viognier has a lovely floral orange/apricot aroma; these notes continue on to the palate where they are heralded by stone fruits, grapefruits and lemon. There is a lovely honey backdrop too, finished with good length and acidity. For those who want to stand aside the Savvy and Chardonnay set knowingly.
Viognier, like all good wines, has been biding its time. As the summers come and go and with them the latest fad in ‘dry whites’ – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blancs, Semillon blends – Viognier has been slowly gaining favour with winemakers and drinkers alike. Ostensibly used in Australia as a minority blending partner in many Shiraz’s, gifting those wines a distinct floral aroma and light ‘sweet’ kick; lately it has been produced as a pure varietal expression.
“The Ritual” was an experimental concept between Orondo Farm vineyards in Dwellingup WA and the Ceremony Wine Company intended for the strong export market at the time. With export opportunities now closed a small quantity remains at drastically reduced prices.
