Podere La Marronaia Vernaccia Di San Gimignano 2009 |
| |
Only grown in the hillsides around the spectacular village of San Gimignano, it was the first Italian wine to be awarded DOC status and subsequently upgraded to DOCG in 1993. Vernaccia is a relative rare variety and this wine from the vineyard of La Marronaia is a classic example. It has a deep yellow colour with a distinct golden hue. The bouquet is floral with hints of broom and hawthorn. The palate is lively with a flinty dry character and distinctive aftertaste. It’s considered an excellent aperitif and ideal with hor d’eouvres particularly sardines and whitebait.
Denise and Chris Hill are passionate Australian winemakers. They also love discovering interesting handcrafted wines from like-minded family growers across many lands. Vernaccia is a rare variety not grown in Australia and unique to San Gimignano. The Dei family are dedicated boutique winemakers farming organically and producing outstanding examples of this classic Tuscan variety. Available in limited quantities, we hope you enjoy discovering some of the unknown delights from wine regions around the globe.
