Maverick Trial Hill Shiraz 2007 |
The 2007 Trial Hill Shiraz displays all of the hallmarks of the cooler Eden Valley. Dark berry fruits, spice and savoury nuances are supported by lifted, smoky spicy vanillin oak. A great example of a full-bodied cooler climate Shiraz.
Deep garnet red with inky magenta hues. A complex amalgam of mulberry and maraschino cherries. The vineyard’s unique violet notes and exotic spice lie above darker licorice and savoury nuances. Eighteen months maturation in new and conditioned French oak barriques provides a subtle infusion of smoke and spice notes to complement the dark fruits.
Elegant and focused. Firm, fine velvety tannins characterize the palate resulting in great texture and structure. Dark berry fruits, spice and savoury nuances are supported by lifted, smoky, spicy vanilla oak to give a wine of great structure and elegance.
Maverick’s 1.6 hectare Trial Hill Shiraz vineyard is situated on a Northfacing slope in Pewsey Vale high in the Eden Valley and is perfectly suited for the production of high quality cool climate Shiraz. The 2007 growing season was characterized by minimal rainfall (the vineyard was effectively dry farmed) and unusually high temperatures. Intense colour and mature ripe tannin profiles are characteristic of vintage 2007. Fruit was harvested in early-April and fermented in small, open top fermenters. After pressing, the wine was matured in new (38%) and conditioned (62%) French oak barriques for 18 months.
For the first time this wine (as with all Maverick Single Vineyard Shiraz’s) is in a bottle specially designed by internationally-acclaimed Jasper Morrison.
