The Latin vernacular/language/script has its origins as far back as 900BC and was itself an evolution of old Greek and Phoenician dialects. The rise of the Roman Empire saw the language take hold and spread throughout Europe, although it was mostly used by the lower classes, as the elite spoke and read Greek almost exclusively.
Vinum is Latin for Wine and Riedel’s Vinum decanter takes the classical shape, which itself was pioneered by ancient Rome.
