  Chateau De Sancerre 2011

Chateau De Sancerre.gif

Yellow gold with golden highlights. The nose is a rather intense, complex bouquet combining floral notes (acacia blossom, vine flowers) with fruity aromas (mandarin orange, white peach). A hint of rhubarb rounds out the medley. The palate is fresh and full-bodied; it opens up to pleasing flavours of orange and grapefruit, enriched with a hint of yellow peach. Lovely length with orange zest on the finish.

Few names are as synonymous with French Sauvignon Blanc as Chateau de Sancerre. The vineyard grows on the same property on which Count Champagne built a castle in the 10th Century to defend the Loire Valley. It worked too, until 1612 when it was almost completely destroyed during the Wars of Religion. The castle was eventually rebuilt and passed, along with the vineyards, into the hands of Louis Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle, who was instrumental in building the reputation of Sancerre wines. To this day, only wines from this vineyard can be bottled under the exclusive name ‘Château de Sancerre’.
