Domaine Mayard Clos du Calvaire Chateauneuf du Pape 2015
Deep red in colour with a vibrant nose of red and black berry. Sweet spice and liquorice herbal notes are also displayed. The palate is well structured and generous, delivering dark berry fruit, fine tannins and taut acidity. Well poised and with great depth throughout.
Reviews
91 Points - Gary Walsh, Wine Front "Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault from vines with an average age of 40 years (much like myself), bottled early for freshness and lively expression of Grenache. Importer: Fourth Wave Wine Raspberry, chocolate and liquorice, with a little pepper and herb. Medium bodied, nice gummy texture with red fruits, a slight charcoal flavour, freshness and grainy tannin running on the finish. It’s is a good glass of regional wine that won’t blow your head off, or your budget."
From the Producer
A blend from various terroirs of the appellation, Clos du Calvaire is unpretentious—a pure expression of a true Châteauneuf du Pape, aged in the vat to preserve the authenticity of its predominant grape variety, grenache. We bottle this wine earlier than any of other our yearly vintages, after ageing for around 12 months.
