The creamy mousse from the pour is excellent and showcases a elegance straight of the bat. As you would expect the bead is fine and persistent with pale golden liquid holding it all together. The aromas are yeasty toast, biscuit and loaf, which leads to a palate of the same. Delicate, but distinctive to Pol Roger. The creamy texture of the palate provides a balance and harmonious drink with crisp acidity that is welcomed on this stage. The finish is long. It continues with these flavours long after the final sip.
From the Producer
Pol Roger Non-Vinatge (NV) has long been instantly recognisable not only for the classic script of the label, but for the distinctive white foil closure which forms its trademark.
It is often remarked in Champagne that a House's quality should be judged by its NV. For Pol Roger the blending of their most popular cuvee is a source of particular pride. A complex task that is the exclusive preserve of a select circle of family members and the result is a style that can be consumed with an array of occasions.
The guiding principles of blending are the achievement of harmony and consistency. This blend is traditionally composed of 30 still based wines, drawn from different vineyard sites, grape varieties and vintage years.
Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay of equal quantities are used with a minimum age of three years.
