Kiwi Pinot is a bit like French cheese, it’s a bit of a no-brainer. The climate, soil, and cool temperatures give The Land of The Long Green Cloud a natural affinity for the variety. The Nanny Goat is no exception, everything from its colour (ruby red and purple, as nice to look at as it is to drink) to the lingering flavour profile hints at seriously savvy winemaking. And for the price it’s a fair bargain.
There’s a suggestion of wet green bramble and earth spices on the nose that opens up to a core of red and black fruit, leather, and a subtle floral elements. The tannins have been well integrated here resulting in a soft and supple texture where flavours of dark cherries, red fruit, dried herbs and cocoa are seamlessly blended together.
Drink now, drink later, its up to you.
From the Winery
The name “Nanny Goat Vineyard” stuck, as it seemed to be a fair reflection of our determination to succeed, adapt and thrive in the rugged and often extreme climates of Central Otago – much like the nimble and sure footed wild goats of the region have done before us.
It has many guises; from soft and supple, to powerful and masculine and everything in between. Pinot Noir is an incredibly honest varietal, telling the unique story of its place of origin like no other.
We aim to let each individual parcel of fruit tell that story by exclusively hand-picking at optimum flavour ripeness, gentle handling and cap management in the winery, and careful selection of oak to ensure the wines’ true characters are never overshadowed.
