Gorgeous, approachable Pinot Noir from Central Otago! Ripe hand picked fruit, gentle winemaking and maturation in French oak, 28% new, have resulted in a very approachable and rich wine, with aromas of ripe cherries, raspberries and Black Doris plums, a rich and silky smooth palate with fine grainy tannins to match the fruit. Excellent value, drinking fantastically well now and will develop and cellar for several years.
Awards and Accolades
2014 Vintage: GOLD - New Zealand International Wine Show 2015
2014 Vintage: 18/20 - Raymond Chan, Raymondchanwinereviews "Full, even, dark ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. This has an elegantly presented and tightly bound nose of dark cherry and berry fruit infused with thyme herbs, unfolding violetty and black florals, and spicy raspberry notes. Medium-bodied, the palate features a tightly concentrated core of dark red cherry and berry fruits. Layers of herbs and liquorice unfold, adding detail and interest to the fruit sweetness. The wine follows a fine-grained, firm tannin core and line, and has underlying acidity and energy contributing to the drive and freshness. The textures and acidity carry the wine to a long, lingering finish of raspberry fruit nuanced by bitter cherry fruit and a hint of minerally reduction. This is a tightly held and elegant Pinot Noir with concentrated fruit and a fine, firm line. Match with duck, pork and lamb dishes over the next 4-5+ years. Clones 5, 6, 667, 777 and Abel from the ‘Wooing Tree’ vineyard, hand-picked, given a cold soak and fermented with 1.5% whole clusters to 13.0% alc., the wine aged 8 months in 27% new French oak."

From the Winery
This 2014 Pinot Noir is the latest release named after the critically endangered Cromwell Chafer Beetle, which is found in only one place in the world, Cromwell. The 81 hectare site has now been set aside as the Cromwell Chafer Beetle Nature Reserve to monitor and protect their habitat. This wine is very approachable now.
