2009 Royal Melbourne Wine Show : BRONZE MEDAL & Top rated wine in category. A very selective field of entrants, only two wines qualified for points allocation, with the 2006 Maritime Estate Pinot Noir topping the list with a Bronze Medal.
"Light, clear crimson-purple; a fragrant red berry bouquet is followed by a more savoury, spicy palate; offers length more than depth. 90 Points" - James Halliday.
Pinot Noir is the star of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Some of the country’s best vineyards and producers are located on the Peninsula. Maritime Estate is planted to the Pinot Noir clones MV6, 114, 115 & 777. With vines planted in the late 80’s, Pinot Noir production is the main focus for the brand & the grape variety from which winemaker Sandro Mosele, will aim to produce the most dynamic wines.
The 2006 Maritime Estate Pinot Noir is a fabulous wine, showing all the hallmarks of a great Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir. The 4 years bottle age has rewarded this wine enormously. The colour is bright, with hints of a pink/purple hue. The nose is complex, with notes of black cherry & spice. To taste, the wine is opulent…. an abundance of flavours from black cherries to mushroom & lively violet floral notes. The integration of fine grain tannins & meticulous French oak intensifies, allowing the wine to open and concentrate the flavours to a lengthy, lingering finish.
Staff Tasting: Cherries, berries and spice on the nose with an authentic Mornington Penisula palate of savoury mushrooms and red fruits. One for Summer evenings and, if you're into that kind of thing, the fridge. Tasters: LC, TE, CN, MM.
"This modest, hospitable cellar door is a bit off the beaten track, but well worth the visit. The driveway hides among the tall trees and descends to a leafy little clearing that smells fragrantly of pine and eucalypt. The secluded vineyard that stretches before the cellar door down to Stoney Creek, is a source of excellent Chardonnay and Pinot Noir made in the best Peninsula style." Ralph Kyte-Powell.
