This Frankland River Cabernet delivers intense varietal characteristics, gradually developed over the course of an even vintage.
The fresh bouquet of lifted cassis fruit is underpinned by notes of cedar oak and tobacco leaf. Medium weight palate continues to offer good depth of cassis flavour, backed by fine grained tannins that unwind into a long finish.
Awards and Accolades
93 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion Eight blocks harvested over 2 weeks, matured in French oak (20% new) for 12 months. A full-bodied cabernet with deep colour and robust mouthfeel; while the tannins are balanced, they need to soften, but there's enough blackcurrant fruit to wait however long the process takes.
2012 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "An elegant estate-grown wine sourced from several sites on Alkoomi's extensive vineyard; an utterly classic cool climate cabernet, medium to full-bodied, with blackcurrant fruit, cedary oak and persistent, but integrated and balanced, cabernet tannins. Will age with grace."
From the Winery
Eight small, separate blocks of estate grown fruit harvested over a period of two weeks were selected for this vintage. The blend was matured in twenty percent new French oak for 12 months. The result being a wine of complexity through vineyard expression and time in oak.
A mild, dry winter and a spring with ample rain, was followed by a warm, even summer, interspersed with timely rainfall events. This presented us with early flavour development, providing an intense varietal profile whilst retaining the freshness of the natural acidity.
