Cabernet is to South Australia what sheep are to New Zealand. Which makes it all the more impressive that Halliday himself has called this “the best producer in Langhorne Creek a few years ago.
The Walters Reserve is what I’d call an “oversharer” - however unlike that friend who just won’t stop talking about themselves, this is a good thing. There’s a lot going on here, sweet fruit with a lot of vanillin, musk, and spicy oak and a generous kick of alcohol. There’s a sticky sort of tarriness to this tempered by cassis, mint, and rich dark earth. This is going to age like a champ, so lay it down to rest and have your world rocked.
Awards and Accolades
2010 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Wine Companion "Grapes hand-picked from the best estate block; after extended fermentation the wine is matured for 20 months in new French barriques, individual barrels then selected and blended. It has exceptional power, concentration and drive to its savoury black fruits and ripe tannins. Will be very long lived."
2010 Vintage: SILVER - San Francisco International Wine Competition 2016
From the Winery
The wine is supported by a fine, defining, elegant tannin structure and shows spice and complexity from the careful use of new French oak. This wine is very secretive as it takes its time to reveal itself, a powerful wine that will not only evolve in the glass but will reward you with patience in the cellar.
