  Cullen Cabernet Merlot 2013

Cullen Cabernet Merlot .gif

Matured for 8 months in French oak barrels of which one third was new.
Opaque black dark crimson red colour with dark crimson purple hue. The nose exhibits aromas of blackcurrant and dark mulberry over a hint of dark chocolate, cedary tobacco like characters and spice showing very good intensity. Medium weight with a relatively elegant mouthfeel the palate features youthful but generous ripe blackcurrant and mulberry flavours over some cedar, light tobacco and spice. Dryish finish with very fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of blackcurrant, mulberry, dusty cedar and spice.
Cellar 5-6 years.

James Halliday: 95 (2008)
A junior brother to the Diana Madeleine, with a splash of petit verdot and cabernet franc joining the 68/24 main blend; despite the low alcohol, there isn't a scintilla of green/unripe fruit, nor is the 11 months in two-thirds new French oak especially obvious. The components are welded in a wine of great fragrance and high-toned fruit flavours.
