De Bortoli Yarra Valley Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Stunning value Cabernet from De Bortoli. Following on from a cracking 2012 vintage, this release has already scooped 2 gold medals.
Deep red with purple edge. The nose is delicate with exquisite aromatics; bright with hints of leaf, blackcurrant, mint and woodiness. Sweet dark fruit, violet and finely layered tannins form a powerful, driven fruit core. The finish is well poised, and will continue to drink well over the coming years!
Accolades and Awards:
GOLD - Brisbane Wine Show 2015 GOLD - Yarra Valley Wine Show 2015
94 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Dusty blackcurrant cabernet characters are meshed with toasty oak and leafy cool-climate influence within a finely honed structure, the supple tannins adding the perfect finishing touch. Enjoyable now or later."
2012 Vintage: 93+ Points - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front "When Yarra Valley cabernet is good, it’s very good. Aromatically this wine is exquisite. Pure blackcurrant cabernet fruit. It needs time for the mid palate to flesh out but this has length and perfume and tannin and texture. It’s a claret style. Olive and chocolate. This is what Yarra cabernet is all about. Lots of potential in the cellar here."
From the Winery
Fruit is sourced from the six estate vineyards planted in 1987, 1988, 1991 and 1994. We thought 2012 was an exceptional year. 2013 is proving to be something very special also. Quite a warm season but mild weather in late autumn gave good colour and tannin development, beautiful aromas and wonderful concentration at moderate alcohols.
Fruit was picked in the cool of the morning, destemmed, crushed and tipped into 14 tonne vats. The fruit is macerated for 15-30 days, depending on vineyard and kept at a minimum of 25?°C. The skins are pressed and the wine settled for a week, then gravity racked to new and used casks where it matures at 16?°C for 14 months. The individual cuvees are racked from cask, aerated and returned every three to four months before assembly in June, 2014.
