The perfect combination of old meets new or is it new meets old? Margaret River a superb region of the western Australian west coast ! Dark chewy black fruits with endless layers awash the mouth and are preceded by aromatic killer notes of cassis, leather, dried fruits and vanilla. The wine is immensely satisfying while tending to provoke thought and desire to have more to contemplate. Tannins are judiciously balanced and work well all the way through the wines depth and length.
At this price it is definitely a special occasion wine - BUT - Make that special occasion possible and buy some for the cellar - Will cellar well and is a good vintage to have to boast about later as the wine gathers pace.
96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion: "Both opulent and fine at once. The bullseye has been hit dead centre here. Oak, fruit, acid and tannin all pull together. Excellent wine, builds its own landscape. Blackcurrant-like flavour, luscious, is slipped with coffee-cream, leather, cigars. Dusty, fruit-filled tannin winds its way through, inexorable, unhurried, a river flowing over smooth long stones. The longer you sit with it, the lower the price seems."
Posted on 09 July 2015. - 94pt + This is a little different from the rest of the Leston/Scotsdale range. As Margaret River shiraz often is. It’s a savoury expression of the variety. It has plenty of cherry-plum fruit, an abundance even, but it’s smoky, graphite-like, clovey personality is the dominant impression. Meat and peppers, gun smoke and mineral. Reductive elements kick all these characters along. Chocolatey oak, dark and slightly bitter, but subtle. Positive. This is a beauty.
