Linke Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Linke Cabernet Sauvignon NV.gif

Last week we fell in love with a great Shiraz from these guys and had a difficult time keeping up with the orders So here is their other favourite child - A really splendid, rich luscious Barossa Cabernet that over delivers from the get go and pulses with lush satiny fruit at the ultra Premium end of the market for a budget price.

It pours dark and ominously into the glass as an opaque black dark bulls blood. The nose engages with rich violets, ripe blackcurrants, plum and hints of leather and chocolate. The palate is what stops you in your tracks. A full bodied wine fills the mouth immediately cascading the senses with rich concentrated flavours of deliciously summer ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and blood red plums followed by some underlying cedar and pepper spice on the back palate. The fine grained tannins lie beautifully in the mouth alongside the structure that excellent Cabernet provides and together are a match made in heaven. A luscious Cabernet chockablock with all things nice and will go on to be a rock star with age.

This wine was made from a small select parcel of fruit grown on the family vineyard at Stonewell in the Barossa Valley. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines are low yielding, producing a wine crimson in colour, with hints of chocolates and plums on the palate. This wine is full and well structured, drinking well now but will reward careful cellaring.

Located in Tanunda in the Barossa, Linke remains a 5th generation family owned producer. Their two vineyards - the "Stonewell Block" on the western side of the Barossa, and the "Dorrien" which is on the valley floor, consistently produce top notch fruit for renowned labels (including St Hallets and Langmiel, as well as being recognised at Penfolds as a "Top Shelf’ grower). Since 2002, a portion of fruit has been reserved for the family's own label.
