Penfolds Rawson's Retreat Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Penfolds Rawson

Awarded Australian Wine Producer of the Year at the International Wine and Spirits Competition, Penfolds have established themselves at the forefront of Australian wine production. Leading the marketplace, Penfolds firmly has a grip on what the consumer wants and is able to produce wines of stupendous quality for marginal prices because of their market position. Their 2014 Rawson’s Retreat reveals yet another offering that exemplifies this idea. Simple, easy drinking, consistent wine makes for a sure thing.

This Rawson's Retreat Cabernet Sauvignon has deep red hues, spiced flavours and raspberries on the nose. Good fruit weight with cherries and oak flavours with a rich mid palate and a smooth tannin finish.

Rawson's Retreat has been a favourite in many Aussie households for years, and this one comes in at the more elegant, lightly-oaked end of the Penfolds spectrum. Scents of cassis, crushed leaves and subtle mint adorn the nose, whilst the palate is more medium-bodied and fruity, with mellow tannins, friendly acidity, and a smooth, slinky finish. Great value!
Penfolds Rawson's Retreat wines present classic single-varietal and varietal blends in an approachable, fresh-flavoured style. Drawing on Penfolds' extensive vineyard resources, the wines offer a first-rate quality and value guarantee, presenting the drinker with an affordable taste of everyday Australian wine at its best.
Launched in 1995, Rawson's Retreat is the introductory level for Penfolds wines. The name Rawson's Retreat is an informal reference to the stone cottage built in 1845 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold at the famous Magill vineyard in Adelaide, where - with wife Mary and daughter Georgina - he had settled the year before and was to soon establish the Penfolds winery, which still operates today.
