Yum! Astonishing depth of succulent brambly black fruits and crunchy tannins that seep into your soul minute by minute. Grab the dog and go for a long walk on the beach, rake the garden, listen to the footy and then spoil yourself!
This is an intoxicating wine that goes the country mile to prove great Cabernet is a drink that supplies all the depth and succulence when from a great vintage and a handy winemaker Mr Hardy himself.." Just tasted this again and the good news is that although limited in supply - It will age another 4-7 years perfectly if cellared.
Rifle & Hunt sounds like the beginning of a tale from an early hunting expedition, but the story is really not that complicated. It's more like directions rather than a name, with the Pertaringa property being on the corner of Rifle Range and Hunt Roads in McLaren Vale! The nose is overlayed with dark fruit, blackcurrant and mulberry with well-rounded integrated smokey oak aromas and lovely herbaceous tones.
Rich and balanced with concentrated fruit and black ink on the palate. The tannins form a perfectly straight line in the mouth and accentuates that the wine will age with character and depth.
Awards and Accolades - 2014 Vintage:
GOLD - Melbourne International Wine Competition 2016 GOLD - China Wine & Spirits Awards Best Value 2016
95 Points - Tony Keys, The Key Report "Pure blackcurrant/berry on the nose. On the palate the flavour spreads along and outwards. Fruit at first then sharper (good) characters come into play all combine to make a rather special wine, 95 points and worth $40"
2013 Vintage: 95 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Deeply coloured; a particularly juicy and vibrant cabernet with none of the pain the variety can inflict; oak and tannins are the essential counterpoints to the fruit, providing structure and (if you like) discipline; has excellent length and balance."
95 points - Sam Kim, WineOrbit
