Robert Oatley Finisterre Marg. River Cabernet 2014
This rather powerfully built WA Cabernet may well be the best wine in the whole Robert Oatley range, the wine with a depth of structure that just makes you want to tuck a few bottles away for a rainy day.
Awards and Accolades
2013 Vintage: 96 Points - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion "Hand-picked, berry-sorted, wild (1/3) and cultured yeast, open and closed fermentation, 21 days post-ferment maceration, 15 months in new and used French oak. This really has echoes of Bordeaux, particularly on the back-palate and finish, when the ripe, but firm, tannins mesh with the blackcurrant fruit so much so you're not sure where one stops to allow the other a chance to speak. Then throw in the French oak, and you simply have to let it all wash over you, relax and enjoy it."
From the Winery:
Climatically, Australia’s most reliable wine region, not to mention one of its best known, Margaret River is the ideal home for the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, producing distinctive wines of powerful structure and finesse.
Grapes from the northern end of Margaret River, primarily around Wilyabrup, were harvested at ideal flavour and tannin ripeness, fermented then matured forten to twelve months in French oak from a variety of coopers. A very good growing season has helped deliver well-balanced wines that will develop gracefully in bottle. Enjoy now to 2023- 2025.
