"95 Points. “The standard Vasse Felix Cabernet comes from the Northern parts around Wilyabrup, with the Heytesbury being a barrel selection from the old vine home blocks further south. Tasted next to the Vasse Felix standard release of the same vintage and the greater density and depth of colour is just the beginning of the story. Chocolate, bay leaf, bramble and black fruit. Full bodied and packed with bold chewy tannin – inky and black tea like – with a long vanilla oak and dark chocolaty finish. Acidity is well integrated and firm – no shortage of scaffolding with this wine. Has an aniseed tinge and a cooler feel than the standard release. Forbidding and foreboding at present and built for the long haul...” - Garry Walsh, The Wine Front.
A barrel selection of the finest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec from the 2010 Vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend includes portions of Malbec and Petit Verdot, which are distinctly perfumed, flavoured and structured. Both complement the restrained power of the Cabernet.
We find our most characteristic and stylistically suitable Cabernet, Malbec and Petit Verdot parcels are grown mostly on gravel loam within 8km of the coast at the northern end of the Margaret River appellation. 60% of the batches were left on skins for 30 days, extracting and evolving the finest tannins, predominantly from our oldest Cabernet vines. All batches were given 18 months maturation in French oak barriques. The resulting wine is a proud representation of our vineyards, people and practices.
