Campbells Shiraz Durif 2008 |

|
Our Shiraz Durif is a blend of two grape varieties synonymous with Rutherglen. Shiraz provides the full berry flavours and durif, the firm tannin finish. - Colin Campbell.
Tasting Notes:Deep red Fragrant and complex, with the shiraz component contributing scented raspberry fruit, and durif adding violet and black cherry characters. Subtle earth notes in the background add savory appeal. Shiraz is pre-dominant upfront with spicy raspberry and black cherry fruit. Durif soon makes its presence felt through the mid palate, with savory black olive and bitter chocolate notes adding appeal, and fine tannins drawing the wine out to a long and persistent finish.
Fruit was harvested early in March and then fermented on skins for approximately seven days. After blending, the wine was matured in French and American oak casks for 12 months.
Cellaring and Serving Suggestions:This wine is surprisingly well integrated and drinking well on release, but has the structure and balance to reward five or more years of careful cellaring. Enjoy with aromatic beef empaƱadas or simple wood fired pizza.
James Halliday: Light colour surprises given the durif component; the pleasant, straightforward wine with good flavour, and no airs and graces.
Delicious Magazine, May 2010: Shiraz softens durif's muscular personality, and this is one of the best examples of the blend, especially at the price. It's a distinctly regional red with berry, spice and fruitcake aromas, good depth and persistence of flavour, and nicely poised tannins. Satisfying and well-balanced, it's a bargain.
