  Fickle Mistress Pinot Noir 2014

Fickle Mistress Pinot Noir.gif

Translucent crimson red colour with light crimson hue. On the nose cherry and raspberry top notes are followed by some toasty cedar and spice. Light weight but quite flavoursome the palate possesses fruity ripe cherry and strawberry characters with a spicy back palate. Soft very fine grained tannins. Good length with medium to long fruity aftertaste of ripe cherry, strawberry and spice.
The blurb on the bottle sums it all up pretty nicely - Pinot Noir is fickle but she is charming, she is temperamental but bewitching. She is the Fickle Mistress.

Campbell Mattinson: New label out of the Treasury Wine Estates stable. Affordable Central Otago pinot noir. It is intended – this is a wonderful sentence – to “appeal to consumers with its quirky and niche NZ branding that is visually engaging and will prove to be a wonderful conversation starter when dining and drinking.” The name refers to the fact that pinot noir is generally considered to be a “fickle mistress” – in the vineyard. Nikolai St George is credited as the winemaker in the corporate release but the wine is actually made by Greg Rowdon.

Oz Wine Review:
The wine looks the part. It's a light, glossy bright red ruby colour. Smells correct too with a simple, pulpy fresh redcurrant/raspberry juiciness. Palate is light, pretty and easy, looking generous if a tad underpowered and tending lollied through the finish... Ultimately if you could pick this affable Pinot up I'd suggest its quite fair drinking.
