Fowles Are You Game Pinot Noir 2014

Fowles Are You Game Pinot Noir.gif

Alluring ruby red in colour and lively on the nose. Cherry and red plum aromas intermingle with hints of oak, light spice and mild earthy notes. The palate is more rich red cherry and ripe red fruit, a dash of Sangiovese in the blend adding delicate plum to the mix. Structured nicely, tannins provide a firm backbone and good length to the finish.

2010 Vintage

90 Points, James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion
“Medium red-purple, with good retention of hue; travels the fine line between dry red and true pinot flavours, coming down (just) on the right side on the finish and aftertaste, with spiced plum fruit spreading its wings and taking flight.”

From the Winery

The Fowles Wine vineyards and winery are located in the dramatic granite landscape of Strathbogie Ranges region of Victoria, Australia. Fowles Wine crafts some of Australia’s finest cool climate wines, winning many of Australia’s most prestigious wine medals and trophies. The Fowles Wine team is energetic and enterprising, continuing to break new ground by proudly taking the Strathbogie Ranges ‘message in a bottle’ to the world with some of Australia’s most exciting wines.

The fruit for this wine came from our vineyards in the Strathbogie Ranges and was harvested during the day between 3 March and 13
March in 2014. This wine was fermented in high tech sweep-arm fermenters to maximise flavour and colour. We fermented this wine between 25˚ to 28˚ Celsius and in stainless steel tanks to preserve primary fruit flavours. We chose to use a yeast strain called Enofoerm Burgundy. Isolated in the Burgundy region of France, this yeast has been identified for its qualities in helping develop Pinot Noirs with complexing characters. The majority of this wine was matured for four months using new French Oak (75 per cent), with a small component (25 per cent) aged in old French Oak.

The cool growing season of Vintage 2014, together with the cooler sites of our preferred Pinot Noir vineyard – Billi’s vineyard – helped
make a very fine style of Pinot Noir full of red fruit characters. We have blended a small component of Sangiovese (10%) from our Upton Run vineyard into the wine. The Sangiovese contributes lifted red fruit aromas and a lovely texture which we feel enhances this wine for food, especially game.
